Miss Chris is the place to go to explore the salt marsh behind the city of Cape May. We are located right on the calm waters of Cape Island creek with no boating channels to cross to get to the salt marsh. We have a large selection of kayaks and paddleboards available for rental for guests of all sizes including children. We provide lifejackets, paddles, a map and instructions as part of your rental. 

We also offer daily kayak tours at 10 am and Sunset tours on select evenings. Paddleboard tours are also available as well as specialty tours such as Full moon kayak tours and paddleboard yoga. 

We have a special loading dock that makes it easy to launch and recover. Miss Chris Kayaks is not just open a few weeks out of the year. To provide available activities for the guests of Cape May we are open from late April until late October, weather permitting. 

Pontoon rentals are available for use in Cape May harbor for up to 10 guests. We also offer crabbing skiffs for crabbing in Cape island creek for up to 4 adults.

Birding by Boat on the Osprey is a birding and wildlife tour of the coastal salt marsh behind Cape May and the Wildwoods. All of our trips depart from the Miss Chris Marina at 1212 Wilson Dr. in Cape May.

Birding By Boat On the Osprey is the premier nature cruise in Cape May.  Nowhere else can you get such a close-up look at the birds and marine life that inhabit the salt marsh that lie behind the barrier islands. Trips are led by Captain Bob who has 45 years of experience in these back bays and operates these trips daily for up to 8 months of every year.  Along with our crew of highly experienced naturalists we will show you the marsh like no one else can. Every single trip is different as the birds are continually changing through migration and as the new chicks start to mature. We will take the time to show you birds feed, nesting and any other activities that we may come across. We aren’t just out there for a few days a week and for a couple  of months of the year. These cruises are highly interactive and adapted to the group that we have aboard. This is a great activity for children of all ages and we have many items that we carry onboard to check out during our trips. Our 4-hour fishing trip specializes in delivering a truly great experience from the youngster eager to catch his or her first fish to the seasoned fisherman. Our 85-foot boat provides comfort for anglers of all ages with its air-conditioned and heated cabin. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will be there to guide you throughout the trip.

We fish 20 miles offshore for Seabass, Porgies, Blues, Ling and other wreck fish. Fishing on our fast and comfortable boats are an unique experience.

Recommended Tackle: 3/0 reel or something similar with 40 pound test. Size 3/0 or 4/0 hooks for bait rigs with 8-12 oz weight.

Welcome to The Cape May Whale Watch & Research Center located at 1231 Route 109 in South Jersey Marina. The Cape May Whale Watch & Research Center was the original eco-tour operation in Cape May, starting in 1987. We were the forerunners in exploring our surrounding waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay for whales, dolphins, migratory birds, and all aspects of marine life with an emphasis on their interconnectedness to our ecosystem. We layer this experience by underscoring the importance of the conservation of our local marine ecosystem, and couple that with hands-on research experience like no other.

When you step onboard the American Star, you are not only boarding a Whale & Dolphin watching vessel but a floating marine Research Center. Our team of undergraduate college interns collects data on all of our trips fueling our photo-identification research efforts. Our onboard Marine Naturalists and Biologists give an in-depth narration of both the Biology and historical significance of everything occurring right before your eyes! Our passengers become part of the research team on board and through their patronage support our ongoing research and conservation efforts!

The Miss Chris and the Lady Chris have been in the Cape May area providing half day and full day fishing excursions for decades. Started by Frank Speigel in 1973, then owned by Capt Fred through the late 80s, 90s through 2014, and now owned by Captain Jeff Stewart and Son, owners of the Cape May Whale Watcher and Miss Chris Marina and operated by Captain Mike Scanlan and Mate Jim. Captain Mike has been at the helm for 25 years and knows his way around Cape May, New Jersey and its plentiful fishing grounds.

Next, we created the Bivalve Center – BCB’s Maurice Riverfront home where the restored 1904 Bivalve Shipping Sheds and Wharves serve as a maritime center of national significance, homeport to the Meerwald and the Delaware Bay Museum & Folklife Center. Now we are an established educational institute, with programs on the schooner, at the Bivalve campus and in the community – Commercial Township, Cumberland County and throughout South Jersey’s Bayshore region.

The Meerwald’s spacious wooden deck, 23 feet wide by 85 feet long, provides a unique setting for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, reunions, fundraisers, company picnics, and other special occasions. The ship is available for 2 1/2 hour sails to a full day.  Bring your own refreshments or have a catered event.  Beer and wine are permitted onboard.
